Where Can I Take my Final Exam?

Exams for Salt Lake City Center classes are offered in the following locations based on the time of year.

Salt Lake Testing Center

All Semesters Exams throughout the semester and Final Exams are offered for Salt Lake Center classes.

Heber J. Grant Testing Center in Provo

Spring/Summer Final Exams are offered for Salt Lake Center classes.

Testing Information

Students may take exams for BYU Salt Lake Center classes at the BYU Salt Lake Testing Center. With the exception of final exams, most BYU Salt Lake Center exams will also be available at the Heber J. Grant Building (HGB) on the Provo campus.

Students can access their test scores and deadlines at testing.byu.edu. Student may checkout calculators and borrow pencils at the Salt Lake Testing Center. Personal graphing calculators will have their memory cleared before they can be used on an exam.

Can I take my final exam early?

No. University policy requires final exams to be taken on the scheduled final exam days and times.

Independent Study

Can I take an Independent Study test at the Salt Lake Testing Center?

Yes. Students may go to the BYU Independent Study website and select the Salt Lake Testing Center as their proctor site. Please contact the testing center to make an appointment prior to coming. Picture ID is required to take an exam. For directions and parking information, please visit our Parking and Travel page.

Exams for BYU Classes Taught in Provo

Exams for classes taken at BYU in Provo are not usually offered at the BYU Salt Lake Testing Center. However, if you are interested in taking the exams for these classes at our location, please contact us for further instructions.

Offer a Test at Salt Lake Center

Faculty who would like to offer their exams in the Provo Testing Center in addition to the Salt Lake Testing Center will need to submit their exams before 9:00 a.m. two business days prior to the start of the exam. For more information, please see the Faculty page.

Where can I take my exams?

Exams for Salt Lake Center classes can be taken at the Salt Lake Center Testing Center or in Provo at the Harman Testing Center (HCEB) and/or the BYU Testing Center in the Grant Building (HGB) depending on where they have been sent by your course instructor. See your course syllabus for specific details.

Do I need my BYU ID card to take an exam at the Testing Center?

No, but you must present a valid form of photo ID to take an exam. The Testing Center will accept a driver’s license, passport, or the BYU student ID on the BYU app as alternatives. A picture of a photo ID is not a valid form of ID.

Is the Testing Center open during semester breaks?

No, the Testing Center is only open during BYU semesters and terms. Please refer to the BYU academic calendar for semester and term start and end dates and this Testing Center page for operating hours and exceptions.

When does the late fee begin for my exam?

You can view when late fees begin for your exams at testing.byu.edu.

My test deadlines are listed differently on the Testing Center website than they are on Learning Suite and Canvas. Which one should I go by?

Please refer to the Testing Center website for accurate deadlines and testing information. You can view your test dates online.

I’m a BYU Independent Study student. Where can I park when I come to take exams?

BYU Independent Study students are welcome to park in the student parking garage, located at 50 North 400 West. Parking validations are available at the Testing Center.
